Links
Here is a selection of sites related to hiking and mountains in Switzerland. On some of them you will find other itineraries than mine. When a webpage describes the exact same hike as mine, I put the link on the corresponding hike description.
Click on the flags to access the sites (some are available in several languages).
Randalp: alpine hikes for seniors ans others. A cool site by Raymond Nicole with interesting ideas for hikes in French speaking Switzerland.
Hikr.org is the new name of former website randonneur.ch. The concept is a database of hikes that can be consulted and extended by the users. Since its beginning in 2003, the site has grown a lot and now contains an abundant selection of hikes in several Swiss regions and abroad.
CampToCamp, is a forum similar to Hikr.org. I tend to use it rarely, mainly because it is not focused on the Swiss Alps like Hikr.org is.
Great outdoor recreation pages, Hiking Switzerland by Karen Walker: general and comprehensive informations on hiking in Switzerland.
Valais Tourisme: official information from Valais Tourism.
www.montagne.ch is a Swiss portal about mountains. Like on any portal, you will find ad banners and sponsors messages, but not only! Have a look at the magnificent gallery!
Romandie Randonnées: some lesser known hikes.
Guide des refuges de haute et moyenne montagne (list of mountain huts, with personal ratings) by Markus Jaton. Another page worth mentionning is the Summer courses page.
Dmitry Yakunin's Around Lausanne.
What you will find on Panapic.com are mainly great panorama shots. But also hike and climb reports.
Walking Switzerland, by Lou Johnson.
Randomandie.ch: reports and pictures of hikes in French-speaking Switzerland (Romandie)... and elsewhere.
TopRando: contains "selected mountain hikes in the Swiss French Alps, mainly in the center of Valais and Haute-Savoie".
site of Mauro Lüthy, a contributor from Ticino to Hikr.org (listed above). Even though the site is in italian language, the numerous hikes - most of them in canton Ticino - are presented with pictures, maps and elevation graphs. Thus even non-Italian speakers will enjoy it.
I do not know who stands behind the name Les Joyeux Randonneurs (The Merry Hikers). Whatever, their website writes about several of "my" hikes. Furthermore, it has suggestions of strolls at lower altitudes or in the plain (which I don't).
Refuges.info: describes itself as "a collaborative site where information is provided and updated by the members". It covers all the huts and refuges of the Alps, and even some elsewhere in the world.
Hike reports and hiking forum: this site's main interests are the comments and first hand experiences left by visitors.
Gipfelstürmerin.de: a recent discovery, this site has similar hike reports as here.
braendji.ch/ is for whom is planning an hiking trip in Oberwallis, in particular in the Turtmanntal and around Visp/Viège. Wonderful pictures from people who obviously love and know their region.
Behind Destination Montagne "hides" the hiking leader (accompagnateur en montagne) Charles Lehmann. His picture galleries have inspired me several times, in particular for outings in the Ticino canton.
Transpiree.ch: a rich choice of summer hikes in the same mountains of Switzerland, Italy and France. Was an inspiration for several of my own outings.
Great to see so many new personal sites related to hiking pop up on the net. Rando-Passion is one that I just discovered.
On Visinand.ch, most of the hikes are a bit more "extreme" than mine: some off trail, some with huge height gain, T4 or T5...
Yellow Way, Signposts for Swiss hikes is an interesting projet: a collaborative site with the goal of referencing the Swiss hiking signposts (yellow signs). Free and simple, it may become quite useful when the signposts database grows.
